I run intimate cooking classes for up to 7 people in my renovated warehouse apartment in North Fitzroy in Melbourne. It feels more like a gathering of friends with a shared love of making Italian food rather than a formal class.
All classes are hands-on (unless specified) with your own work-station. We will be tasting the food we make and (unless specified) you will be taking some home to share with family and friends. Please note that my apartment has internal stairs so is not suitable for anyone who cannot easily walk up and down them.
Cost per class: classes are $150 per person, includes one-on-one tuition (except where indicated) and take home recipe cards/booklet. Home made Italian biscotti, cakes or savoury snacks will be served during the class as well as complimentary wine or Prosecco. Please note that classes in 2019 have now sold out.
BESPOKE CLASSES: I run bespoke Italian cooking classes from my apartment in North Fitzroy for up to 7 of your closest friends or family – tell me what Italian food you would like to learn to cook and we can design the menu together! These can take the form of 3-course sit-down lunches or celebrations at my dining table which has been set for your group with a lovely linen or vintage lace tablecloth, matching napkins and beautiful ceramic plates. The lunch will be accompanied by complimentary prosecco or wine. Please get in touch with me via the contact form below if you would like to find out more. The cost is usually $160 per person, but can vary depending on the menu and the number of courses. I do not run evening classes or dinners. Bespoke classes can be run on weekdays or weekends. Example menus from past classes include:
- hand rolled grissini, ricotta and herb gnocchi with peas and broad beans and Sicilian cannoli with sweet ricotta
- tigelle with pickled radicchio and salami; hand cut pappardelle with pork sausage ragù; honey ricotta cake with pears poached in spiced wine
- spinach and ricotta ravioli; saltimbocca alla Romana; seasonal fruit crostata
- stuffed mussels; hand rolled fusilli pasta with an eggplant tomato sauce; apricot and almond cake

Mamma’s apple strudel masterclass
This class id dedicated to the recipes my mother taught me. Learn how to make my mamma’s apple strudel, typical of the northeastern corner of Italy (with pastry so thin you can read love letters through it). I also be demonstrating a batch of sweet apple frittole for us to share during the class which we will eat accompanied by complimentary Prosecco. This is a hands-on class and a maximum of 6 participants. You will be making strudel in pairs and taking half of one home to share with family and friends. The class runs from 1pm to 4pm.
NEW – Hand made pasta for Sunday lunch
Sunday lunches were special times growing up. It was the one day we would all help mamma in the kitchen to make a special meal. Usually the TV show Variety Italian Style was playing in the background, so we would listen to the latest Italian tunes while we cooked. For this Sunday lunch we will work at the kitchen bench, making two types of pasta and matching sauces. After a sit down lunch of pasta (x2) and salad, we will share a special home made dessert. Complementary wine will be served with lunch and we will listen to Italian music while we cook. The class is limited to 7 people; it runs from 11am to 2pm.
NEW – All about pastry
There is nothing quite like making pastry from scratch and it tastes so much better than store bought pastry. You will learn all the tips and tricks to making THREE types of pastry in this part demonstration, part hands-on class: (1) vegetarian hand-pies with dairy-free olive oil pastry; (2) a seasonal vegetarian tart with a buttery shortcrust pastry and (3) individual seasonal fruit tarts with a rough puff pastry. We will be starting the day with coffee and home made biscotti and share our three pastry creations over a sit down lunch, which will be served with complementary wine. The class is limited to 7 people and runs from 11am to about 2pm (probably a bit later).
Join me for a 3-course Sunday lunch inspired by my second cookbook “Adriatico”. This lunch will focus on the beautiful Adriatic coast of the region of Puglia. We will learn the art of making orecchiette, stuffing mussels and we will make a delicious seasonal dessert. I will be serving complementary wine with lunch and we will listen to Italian music while we cook. You will be able to purchase my cookbook Adriatico at a special price. The class runs from 11am to 2pm.
Italian sweet treats
Learn how to make three types of traditional Italian biscotti. We will be making three of the following: Mostaccioli Pugliesi, Biscotti del pescatore, ricotta-filled cannoli, crostoli, Sicilian lemon taralli, or intorchiate Pugliesi. Please check in my online shop which ones we will be making in individual classes.
You will be taking a batch of what you make home, to share with family and friends. Home made snacks and a glass of complimentary Prosecco will be available during the class. This is a hands-on class that runs from 1pm to 4pm. Please note that the class in December will be focussed on Christmas treats and will include cannoli and two other Christmas inspired sweets
